Peacebuilding & Youth Engagement-Intern - Juba, South Sudan

Are you an experienced and qualified Peacebuilding & Youth Engagement-Intern? Tearfund South Sudan has an exciting opportunity for a professional and qualified Peacebuilding & Youth Engagement-Intern.

The Intern will support the programmatic efforts to grow the Peacebuilding, Social Cohesion and conflict sensitive Programming of Tearfund in South Sudan, providing support for the engagement of young people in peacebuilding and social cohesion for peaceful co-existence.

The Intern will be supervised by the Peacebuilding & Recovery Specialist and work closely with Partners and the Field Offices, gaining exposure to activities and strategies required to advance an integrated programming in South Sudan. We want our interns to make the most of this experience. To this end, we ask every intern to develop a set of strategic learning objectives at the beginning of their internship, outlining their key learning and professional needs. Your supervisor will work with you to ensure assignments are relevant to these learning objectives, and that you continue to grow throughout your internship, as you contribute to the programme development.

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • A degree in Peace and Conflict Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, International Relations, International Development, or similar field of study.
  • At least 2-3 years of volunteer experience.
  • Understanding of peace and social cohesion
  • Experience of working in the community especially in youth groups.

Skills/Abilities required:

  • Good oral and written reporting skills in English.
  • Excellent communication, report writing skills and facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge in Ms-word and Excel.
  • Ability to take command of a situation and make decisions.
  • Interest in moving state issues to national and community level and amplifying the voices of grassroots youth and women at the national level.

  • Patient & tolerant.
  • People person – can present the ‘caring face’ of the programme.
