Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is an international relief and development agency that envisages a caring world where people unite to respond to the suffering of others, empowering them to fulfill their potential. We are an independent Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in the UK in 1984. We are a registered charity with the UK Charity Commission, and we work in over 40 countries worldwide. We are a member of the British NGO for Overseas Development, Disasters Emergency Committee and have global cooperation with UNHCR, WFP, UNICEF, UNFPA, IOM, and CAFOD.
We are signatories to the Red Cross Code of Conduct, an international standard on working with people affected by emergencies in a non-biased manner, and we have NGO status with the UN’s Economic and Social Council. We have signed a Framework Partnership with the European Commission Humanitarian Aid department, and a partnership agreement with UNHCR that reaffirms both organizations’ principles of giving aid without discrimination. We are also one of the few NGOs to be awarded Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) certification
