Project Description
EDC in partnership with We Care Solar Organization (WCS) is implementing the USAID Youth Empowerment Activity which focuses on the assets and resilience that youth themselves possess and can recognize, champion, and reinforce in one another. It aims to improve access to knowledge and functional skills for more than 25,000 youth – aged 15 to 29 in 5 states (Eastern and Central Equatoria, Jonglei, Unity, Upper Nile, and Western Bahr el Ghazal) and 13 counties.
As a sub-awardee We Care Solar will empower youth with a unique hands-on solar education program aimed at reaching up to 200 youth and teachers. Through in-person training using our Power2Share curriculum, and We Care Solar Suitcase kits, trainees will gain foundational solar literacy and practical experience. Qualified trainees will conduct apprenticeships to install the Solar Suitcases at community sites to provide light and device power for youth social education and entrepreneurship activities.
The USAID Youth Empowerment Activity would ideally like to recruit a South Sudanese youth with technical aptitude or interest in solar/STEM, NGO project management, and good digital communication skills. The Intern Coordinator will primarily be dedicated to We Care Solar Suitcase kits program support but will also be available to learn about other EDC projects and support other activities where possible.
