We live in a world where the scale and egregiousness of violent conflicts are increasing and where all evidence suggests that their effects on the human rights of women and girls are severe and all intensifying. Girls and women experience human insecurity differently from men and are subjects to gender hierarchies and power inequalities that exacerbate their insecurity because of their lower status, girls and women are less likely to articulate and act upon their security needs as compared to men…
It is now recognized that conflict prevention, recovery and peace building cannot succeed if half the population is excluded. Conflict prevention, peace agreements, post-conflict reconstruction, and governance is more effective when women are involved and when their needs and priorities are taken into account.This e-learning course provides participants with an understanding of how a gender lens is critical to all elements of peacebuilding, conflict resolution and recovery work, initiatives and policy. It outlines the normative framework around women’s rights and peacebuilding, security sector governance, approaches to transitional justice, security policy making and awareness raising on women’s and gender issues.
