Hope Agency for Relief and Development (HARD) is a National South Sudanese NGO that was founded in 1995 to respond to the humanitarian needs of the communities of Bahr el Ghazal region in the then Southern Sudan of Sudan during the (1983 – 2005) civil war. HARD currently works in Western Bahr el Ghazal State (WBeGS) and Northern Bahr el Ghazal State (NBeGS) of South Sudan. HARD is headquartered in Wau Town (WBeGS) and has operational hubs in Raja and Kangi (WBeGS), Barmayen and Aweil Town (NBeGS). HARD also has liaison offices in Juba South Sudan and Nairobi, Kenya.
HARD currently focuses mainly on the following six thematic areas: Food security, and Livelihoods(FSL); Health and Nutrition ; Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH); Education and Adult Literacy; Human Rights, Good governance and Peace-building; and Emergency Response.
In 2023, HARD secured a grant from Global Affairs Canada (GAC) via War Child Canada (WCC) and Oxfam in South Sudan to implement a 5-year education project called Geared for Success (GFS). The project is implemented in Wau County of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, South Sudan.
