Project background

Peace Movement Netherlands Foundation (PAX) is the largest peace organization in the Netherlands, collaborating with committed citizens and partners to protect civilians against acts of war, curb armed violence and foster just peace. PAX is active in eleven countries besides the Netherlands. PAX programme in South Sudan (then Sudan) started in 1994, working closely with the churches, community-based organizations, civil society and activists. Currently, PAX works with National partners and networks in Central Equatoria, Eastern Equatoria, Jonglei, Upper Nile, Unity State and Lake State. PAX has a national office in Juba, South Sudan with six (6) experienced South Sudanese project staff and the head office is based in Utrecht, Netherlands. In South Sudan, we are focusing on: Community based security and protection of civilians, Natural resources and human rights, Transitional justice and women, Peace building, reconciliation and conflict transformation, Peace, and security.

The three-year Program (2023-2026) “Empowered Women Influence” funded by the German Federal Foreign Office is being implemented by PAX and six partners, mostly composed of National Organizations and traditional Partners. PAX leads in Strengthening the capacity of women leaders and the implementing partners to jointly influence the legislation, Judiciary reforms, sustainable peace process and to enhance women’s leadership role in the country at all levels.

Objective

Strengthening advocacy capacities of project partners at State levels through awareness raising, lobby and advocacy skills, and strengthen local capacity of Women Advocacy Groups in cooperation with local partners.
