Requests For Expressions of Interests for Individual Consultancies - Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS)

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) in South Sudan is a ministry in the current revitalized transitional government of national unity.The mission of MAFS is to enhance the quality of life for over 87 percent of the rural population in the Republic of South Sudan through increased productivity, sustainable and quality production coupled with integrated planning, and sustainable and environmentally sustainable management. MAFS envisions sustainable transformation of the country’s agriculture sector into a vibrant and productive economic sector that contributes to economic growth, social wellbeing, national food and nutrition security, and poverty alleviation.

The government of the Republic of South Sudan has recently received Funding form the African Development Bank (AfDB) to implement a new project under the Country Compact. The overall objective of the first project named “Climate Resilient Agri-Food Systems Transformation (CRAFT-01) is to increase agricultural productivity and production, improve food security, and build resilience in South Sudan. The specific objectives of the project include: 1) scaling up climate-adaptive technologies and production systems; 2) developing women- and youth-led businesses in priority value chains; 3) promoting digital agricultural and climate advisory solutions; and 4) building vocational, technical, and entrepreneurship skills for more job opportunities for women and youth.
This project, together with other projects funded by AfDB, is expected to address the major constraints to agriculture production and productivity and facilitate the overall achievement of the four strategic objectives of the agriculture sector. The ongoing AfDB-funded projects are all focused on improving food security by increasing agricultural production and building the resilience of the people of South Sudan to mitigate the risks of climate change and the effects of other external factors.
