INTRODUCTION
STATA is a Statistical Software best known for its strong data management & analyses capabilities. According to google scholars the number of daily users of STATA is significantly increasing by day since 2000, and the numbers are increasing exponentially day by day. STATA is robust in organizing, managing and analyzing data from simple datasets to more complex data; and therefore making it easy for analysts to maximize the use of their datasets for generation of useful information. Other than the ordinary quantitative data analyses, STATA can also be used for exploring and analyzing geo-referenced datasets. its Graphical User Interface (GUI) is very easy and user-friendly for beginners, as well as for those not familiar with using commands/syntax for analysis. Additionally, for those who like coding STATA commands are simple and easy to grasp/memorize when used regularly for data analysis. STATA is widely used in different sectors for analyzing different types of data e.g. socio-economic, experimental, medical data, and many other.
WHY THIS COURSE?
Data analyses has always been a bully for many people, either because of their academic background that was a little away from research/statistics/mathematics, or because they have not been well oriented in data analysis for information purposes. Whether you are a scholar, researcher or a member of project team, evidence-based findings must guide conclusions, right decision making and appropriate allocation of programme resources for results. The course has been specifically designed to help participants understand data organization/management, basic and complex data analyses in STATA software. Participants will also learn useful statistical concepts for outputs interpretation for reporting purposes.
COURSE OUTLINE:
- Introduction to Data Management, Surveys and Experimental Designs
- Data Collection Techniques (Use of Mobile Devices e.g. ODK, Kobo)
- Introduction to STATA datasets (Edit, Browse, List, Generating Variables, Codebook, Use written programs)
- Data Management in STATA (Data Import, Data Labelling, Handling Duplicates, Missing Values, Reshape, Append, Merge, Collapse, Data Transformation, Creating Dummy Variables)
- Data Exploration (Simple tables, cross tabulation with measures of association, Measures of Central Tendency, Outliers, Quartiles, Percentiles, Skewness, Kurtosis, Variance, Standard Deviation, Standard Errors, Ladder/Gladder)
- Data Graphing (Pie charts, bar graphs, histograms, scatter plots, line graphs, panel graphs, QQ plots, matrix plots, survival curves, etc.)
- Advanced Analyses (Normality tests, variance tests, t-tests, One-way & Two-way ANOVA, MANOVA, ANCOVA, OLS Regression, Logistic/Binomial Regression, Factor Analyses/PCA, GLM, Cox Regression, Other Regression Models)
REQUIREMENTS:
Participants are advised to carry a laptop and android mobile devices while attending this course. Participants will get free STATA software license while taking this course. A prior knowledge in data analytical packages is an added advantage.
Who should participate?
Any person willing to learn STATA for data management and analyses, improve their general knowledge on data management and analyses either for academic research, organizational data, or wanting to switch to STATA for analyses has the right footing to this course. You do not have to be a researcher, statistician or an academician in order to attend.
Facilitators:
This course is facilitated by experienced and highly qualified researchers, with unrivaled understanding of data management and analyses skills. Our trainers are ranked the top in the local market, and their skills in STATA software are unmatched.
Expected Training Outcomes:
By the end of the training participants should have learned the core statistical concepts, clearly demonstrate data management and analyses skills in STATA.
