POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION (NGO) AND CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATION (CSO) MANAGEMENT.

Program Overview.

Non-government organizations play a critical role in development and societal oversight. They are key actors in political, social, and economic aspects of a society; influencing development agendas policy creation and implementation.

This course addresses the specific management and development needs of NGO leaders. It is designed to develop the management competencies and analytical capabilities of NGO managers for both local and international organizations.

Students will be trained on positive affirmative action in development planning and promotion of equality and justice. It also provides in-depth knowledge of various project management techniques, theories and M&E.

It features internship, field placement, apprenticeship, research project writing and resource mobilization as part of the program to empower students with fundamental and strategic tools in NGO and Civil Society management.

Main Objectives.

The main objective of the course is on NGO and Civil Society management to improve their capacity to create positive impact and change in disadvantaged and marginalized societies. We aim to capacity build students that desire to work for and with non-profit organizations, NGOs and aid agencies.

The course incorporates the concept of NGO and civil society, the rise and growth of NGOs, managing NGO roles, managing NGO relationships, internal NGO management and professionalism.

Our course units are:

· Concepts of NGOs/Civil Society management and sustainable development.

· Analytical skills and tools for effective monitoring and evaluation.

· Fundamentals of program management and development.

· Interdisciplinary specialization at Ph.D. level.

· Target population.

The program targets interested university and college students and staff members of NGO establishments. The course is also designed for project planners, management staff, and trainers from government and private sector who are involved in planning and managing development projects.

Program Structure.

The core, mandatory courses provide a uniquely insightful overview of the long term development of social science thinking about NGO and Civil Society; equip students with the ability to understand and put to work the most relevant approaches to the subject from across disciplines; and provide training in methodological matters. Students then choose from a range of options with strong relevance for civil society development, covering social movements; philanthropy and fundraising; international social policy analysis, and other bodies of knowledge within particular fields.

Learning Outcome.

Students will acquire knowledge in management strategies, project design and evaluation, and politics; other courses provide in-depth perspectives on such topics as alleviating hunger, advocating for human rights, advancing gender equity, understanding religion and development, climate change and promoting public health.

Capacity and Skills to be acquired.

· Knowledge to key concepts and theories in NGO and Civil Society Formation and Management.

· Good intellectual capacity for analytical knowledge in development.

· Employment Opportunities

· Graduates may gain employment in various sectors such as private, parastatal and government institutions. Other opportunities are also available in international organizations and NGOs, LSOs, CIGs, financial institutions, oil companies, embassies, and outsourcing agencies, among others.

Practicum

a) The Entire course Duration is one Year (2 semesters)
b) Candidates shall be expected to Submit 10 Assignments (Continuous Assessment test) that Account to 70 % of their Work and a Project Paper at the Tail end of the course, which accounts to 30 % of the course Work.
