MECHANICAL TECHNICIANS REQUIRED (2)

We are looking for qualified National applicants to be contracted for 12 months to work in the UniPod in Juba.

UniPod is a physical space and creative culture in which would-be innovators from within University’s students and faculty populations across all disciplines as well as community outside the University can collaborate and work together to explore their own innate design talent to find solutions to their problems irrespective of their academic backgrounds.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

The posts will consist of approximately 60% of the work will be practical and hands on, while roughly 40% will consist of user interaction, training, and software use and will be responsible for:

Workshop Management and Supervision

Ensure a supportive environment and a workplace that challenges, inspires and creates the conditions conducive to learning including day to day management of workshop staff, members, volunteers and makers.

Manage quality issues in all aspects of production, workshop operation in line with codes of practice and the UniPod culture and ethics.

Creation of maintenance schedules and performing maintenance of all tools, equipment, fixings, PPE, facilities, and similar goods within budget.

Establish and implement effective housekeeping and workshop management systems such as tools control and machine access.

Source and arrange for supply of materials and cost-effective use of materials and equipment in the workplace.

Ensure all members in the workshop have adequate supervision in their assigned tasks, health and safety procedures, and inductions appropriate to their activities.

Health and Safety

Ensure a safe working environment by leading on the implementation of health and safety policy, systems and procedures.

Develop and deliver work methods and standards that will ensure health and safety legislation is complied with.

Undertake duties in relation to fire safety, as set out in the H&S policy including upkeep of a fire safety plan.

Provide adequate training, information, instruction and supervision to ensure that work is conducted safely.

Take immediate and appropriate steps to investigate and rectify any risks to health & safety arising from the work activity & attend regular H&S committee in line with H&S policy.

Ensure that there are always adequate emergency proceedings in place.

Undertake day to day duties including organizing fire drills, risk assessments, electrical safety, safe carrying of loads, and other duties as laid out in the H&S policy.

Carry out and keep accurate records of all health and safety procedures and maintenance in the workshop.

Perform other General Duties that are consistent to this position.

BE, BSc, or equivalent degree

Experience

Minimum 3 years professional experience in workshop management

Minimum 2 years professional experience with ECAD/CAD/CAM software

Minimum 2 years’ experience providing training in machine operations, software, design, and fabrication

Proven understanding of mechanical prototyping, from CNC fabrication to analogue workshop tool use

Language: Fluency in spoken and written English.
