World Vision is looking for a dynamic person to fill the position of WASH Assistant (1), (Man or Woman) for its PNS Wash, WV Hong Kong, based in Baliet & Panykang Counties, Greater Upper Nile, South Sudan.
Purpose of the Position:
To contribute to World Vision South Sudan Strategic objective of improving health and wellbeing of beneficiary community through improving access to safe water and sanitation, and impacting good behaviour change in hygiene practices in Panyikang and Baliet Counties.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Coordinate with the WASH Cluster lead, all WASH actors and cross clusters in Upper Nile in order to implement WASH projects in Panyikang and Baliet Counties.
• Develop design plans, working drawings, technical specifications, bill of quantities as per approved standards by WASH cluster or any other institution as required for all construction works outlined on the project design for the said project using AutoCAD or similar drafting computer software;
• Oversee, monitor and follow up the construction, cleanliness and use of latrines in the project areas.
• Install, maintain and operate surface water treatment systems /EmWats or any water filtering equipment.
• Maintain good records for water treatment scheme consumables (reagents and diesel)
• Formation and training of functional water management committees at specific water points.
• Plan and supervise the training of community hygiene promoters on appropriate hygiene promotion methods
• Oversee community promotion of hygiene through awareness raising by community hygiene promoters and that households adopt high levels of solid waste disposal
• ¬ Ensure timely request for water scheme consumables to WVI and or cluster core pipeline supplies or the water treatment support agency. Ensure quality and timely treatment of water for distribution and ensure timely servicing of plants in the water supply establishments so as the water distribution system is void of leakages too.
• ¬ Keep constant surveillance of water treatment process and records and undertake water quality (microbial, chemical and physical) analysis for all water sources using portable water analysis kit.
• ¬ Liaise with local authorities and community leaders on the day today running of the water scheme
• ¬ Ensure timely submission of water treatment, operation and maintenance reports biweekly and monthly
• ¬ Ensure that good cares (good hygiene standards) are maintained in the water points.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.
At least a Diploma in Civil Engineering or related field and bachelor degree will be an added advantage
Minimum 3 years’ experience in Water and/or Sanitation Project implementation, two of which must be with an NGO or International Agency.
Experience maintenance/running of water sources/ contractors in water supply and sanitation construction works.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Oral and written Arabic will be added advantage.
Experience and skills in community mobilization.
Having demonstrated organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
organized, efficient, and able to meet deadlines
Proficiency in using computer software e. g MS Windows, MS office programs and internet.
Strong coordination and networking skills.
Ability to work under pressure in unstable security and remote environment is an asset.
N.B: This position is open to South Sudanese Nationals Only.
N.B: The incumbent of this position will not be a Relocatable Staff.
