World Vision is looking for a dynamic person to fill the position of Communication Officer (Man or Woman) in its Office, based in Juba.

Purpose of the Position

To develop and implement a communications strategy designed to meet the marketing and communications needs of both World Vision Northern Sudan and the World Vision Partnership as a whole.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop a national communications strategy that seeks to position World Vision Northern Sudan as a leading Christian relief and development agency in Sudan.
  2. Ensure the implementation of the WVNS Communications strategy
  3. Design and produce materials that effectively communicate World Vision’s mission, values and program activities to local audiences, including the general public, churches, government, the NGO community and the corporate sector.
  4. Develop and maintain professional contacts and personal relationships with key local print, radio and TV media and assist them by offering story opportunities, arranging project visits and interviews.
  5. Serve as media advisor to the Program Director and other senior managers and assist them with the development of a crisis management plan.
  6. Identify and train staff who can provide written and visual information on their projects for use in local and international communications activities.
  7. Manage the flow of internal communications so that all national staff are fully informed of relevant office plans and activities.
  8. Keep the Program Director and other senior management staff informed on local and international news and trends that have an impact on the work of World Vision.
  9. Prepare promotional communications resource packages for Program Director as and when required for overseas visits.
  10. Work with senior management to ensure that World Vision’s corporate identity is implemented consistently at national, regional and project office levels.
  11. Produce a steady flow of written and photographic resources on local programs for use in the communications and marketing activities of World Vision fundraising offices around the world.
  12. Respond to specific requests from other World Vision offices for information, stories and photos on the projects they fund.
  13. Participate in sub-regional, regional and international communications strategies and initiatives and, where appropriate, implement these at local level.
  14. Submit articles for inclusion in the World Vision Partnership publications: Newsvision and Connections.
  15. Ensure that written and photographic resources are lodged in the WV Partnership communications databases: SCRIBE and MERLIN for Partnership-wide access.
  16. Develop and maintain networks with international media correspondents based locally and look for ways to interest them in World Vision’s work.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Must have a university degree/diploma in journalism or related field.
• Must have at least five years’ experience as a journalist or public relations officer, preferably within World Vision.
• Excellent journalistic skills, including verbal, written and photographic skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate in a cross-cultural environment. Knowledge and experience of desktop publishing, the Internet and database software application
