World Vision is looking for a dynamic person to fill the position of Assistant Field Project Officer, Agriculture, (Man or Woman) for its FAO Grant, based in Rajaf, Juba, South Sudan

Purpose of the Position:

This position will assist implementation of FAO Grant entitled “Distribution of vegetables kits for vulnerable groups” in central equatorial state (CES).
 MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Ensure proper community mobilization for beneficiary registration and exiting/newly created groups formation as per the selection criteria.
 Assist group members identify their leaders who will take lead in organizing the formed groups.
 Assist project officer in conducting leadership training for all identified group leaders.
 Provide extension service support to farmers in establishment of demonstration plots to improve knowledge and skills in vegetable production.
 Identify a group demonstration plot in close proximity to a water source to support micro - irrigation during the dry spells.
 Support group members through agreed work norms for the demonstration plot activities and guide on members on how each member will benefit from the joint work in the demonstration plot.
 Supervise project sites practice and the recommended shall be used as a school without walls for the community at large
 Assist in capturing performance based on yield at the end of the season, will be evaluated and farmers encouraged adopting the learning in their own farms.
• Ensure Proper receiving of inputs from FAO for project beneficiary distribution and Undertake proper and transparent input distribution for beneficiary.
 Support in development of robust peer monitoring initiatives and follow up on individual group farmer production.
 Train lead farmers from the groups on improved agronomic practices both theory and practical sessions and provides close support to the lead farmers to ensure quality of production.
 Conduct follow up visit and technical support throughout the project period to ensure the knowledge gained by group farmers during the trainings is practiced and disseminated done jointly by the project staff as well as staff from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
 Assist in training targeted households on postharvest management with emphasis on reducing postharvest losses.
 Promote locally acceptable low cost postharvest practices which are relevant to the vegetables being promoted with emphasis on retaining nutritive value of produce for continued availability of nutritious foods for families.
 Work together with County and Payam agriculture departments for implementation of the project activities.
 Participate in project assessments and implementation & evaluations.
 Assist the Project Officer in Coordinating with other agencies operating within the area and represent World Vision in external meetings within the areas of operation.
 Conduct regular monitoring of all project sites and take corrective action as required while identifying challenges and document progress towards achievement of project objectives.
 Collect on site data for record keeping and compile timely weekly and monthly reports as well as weekly and monthly plans and report to the agriculture officer.
 Conduct any other duty assign by supervisor.

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience
• Minimum Qualification required: Diploma in Agriculture (Crops)
• Experience: 1-2 years professional experience in comparable position.
• A substantial understanding of rural development/rural communities. Regular field visits are required
• Ability to interact effectively with different stake holders and diverse communities of the operation area.
• Good command of English and possibly local bari and Arabic language.

N.B: This position is open to South Sudanese Nationals Only.
