World Vision is looking for a dynamic person to fill the position of Hygiene Coordinator, (Man or Woman) for its Common Humanitarian Fund (CHF) Project, based in Wau Shulluk, Greater Upper Nile, South Sudan
Purpose of the Position:
The Hygiene Coordinator will assist the Project Manager / WASH Officer in the implementation of WASH activities in the CHF funded Wau Shilluk Emergency Hygiene and Sanitation in Upper Nile. This will be achieved by working with the WASH Officer in coordinating Hygiene Promotion activities and enhance positive hygiene practices and assisting in the capacity building of staff and community structures. The CHF Project targets IDPS and Vulnerable hosts in Wau Shilluk of Malakal County, and any other approved areas of Upper Nile States.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinates community mobilisation and sensitisation exercises on good hygiene practises and minimisation of water, sanitation and hygiene related risks.
- Leads a team of community hygiene promoters by ensuring proper planning, implementation and monitoring of hygiene promotion activities.
- Assists in the development and implementation of tools to track the progress and success of hygiene promotion activities.
- Supervises and mentors Community Hygiene Promoters, ensuring they conduct effective hygiene promotion training, and interventions while maintaining cultural and religious sensitivity.
- Conducts hygiene promotion using community participatory approaches such as PHAST, on the target community for the Project.
- Helps in the formation and training of hygiene promotion committees on sensitization and mobilization of communities on promotion of sanitation.
- Assists the WASH Officer in the supervising the construction and installation of WASH infrastructure.
- Assists the WASH Officer in monitoring usage, operation and maintenance of WASH infrastructure including but not limited to sanitation facilities, water supply infrastructure and any infrastructure that may be established by the project.
- Compiles weekly reports on hygiene promotion, and assists hygiene promoters in compiling reports for major events such as hygiene promotion campaigns, clean up campaigns and training sessions and any other reports as may be required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- A college diploma in Public Health, Environmental Health and Science or any other related field from a reputable tertiary institution. A bachelor’s degree will be an added advantage.
- A minimum 2 years post qualification experience leading hygiene and/or public health promotion campaigns preferably with an INGO setup.
- Good computer skills, particularly in MS Word, MS Excel.
- Commitment to World Vision Core values and mission statement.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Oral and written Arabic and knowledge of local language will be added advantages.
- Experience working in emergencies, under difficult circumstances in remote locations with minimum supervision.
N.B: This position is open to South Sudanese Nationals Only.
N.B: The incumbent of this position will not be a Relocatable Staff.
