What We Do

Purpose

WatHab Technician 1 implements small or non-complex engineering projects within the scope of ICRC’s Juba Urban Water Project Phase 2 and under the close supervision and guidance of their hierarchical superior. S/he personally carries out on-site works and monitors them for quality control and compliance with design documents. S/he has a close working relationship with external stakeholders related to their projects.

Functional Responsibilities
 Supervises the installation, assembling and testing of pipes, fittings, water tanks and other hydromechanical equipment (pumps, mixers, etc.) for compliance with project documents, ICRC standards, and local building codes/standards, and ensures corrective action is taken if necessary.
 Monitors the operation and performance of hydromechanical equipment installed by the ICRC (pumps, pressure gauges, water meters, generators) and ensure routine maintenance is carried out as per standard procedures.
 Conducts quality control during equipment installation.
 Reads, interprets and prepares pipeline and hydraulic drawings, diagrams and schematics.
 Supervises small numbers of casual laborers or contractors working on project sites.
 Facilitates communication and contacts between ICRC and local communities.
 Prepares daily reports on project implementation/progress.
 Produces technical documents including, but not limited to, bills of quantities, installation and operation and maintenance manuals
 Provides information to their supervisor and project colleagues on stakeholder issues, security and site progress.
 Manages project purchasing on labour and materials according to the delegation’s logistical and financial rules, including holding working advances when necessary and documenting the expenses in line with ICRC procedures.

Certification/education required
 Technical vocational training, apprenticeship (in plumbing, mechanics, hydraulics, water technology or related discipline) or equivalent professional experience.
 2-3 years’ professional experience (post-training) in plumbing, mechanics, hydraulics or related field.
 If no certification, 4-6 years professional experience.
 Excellent command (spoken and written) of Juba Arabic.
 Excellent command (spoken and written) of English.
