The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them with assistance. It also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles.

Purpose

The Digital Officer works to boost the Delegation’s visibility through social media platforms. S/he will oversee drafting, editing, and publishing engaging posts and digital campaigns using audio-visual material for the Delegation’s social media platforms in accordance with the Delegation`s Public Communication / Digital Strategy and priorities in consultation with the Public Relations Officer.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Public Relation Officer, the Digital Officer is responsible for the following duties:

  • Create, edit, and publish engaging posts and digital campaigns using audio-visual material for the Delegation’s social media platforms aligned with the Delegation’s Public Communication and/or Digital Strategy and priorities in consultation with the Public Relations Officer.

  • Manages engagement with digital audiences on the delegation’s social media platforms and webpage by responding to comments and queries where necessary.

  • Ensures accurate, timely, and effective delivery of digital content and campaigns, optimized for search and audience engagement.

  • Monitor social media for trends and issues related to the work of ICRC in South Sudan, analyzes the impact of the social media strategy, and provide relevant information to all the departments.

  • Participate in the development of the Delegation’s communication strategies for public engagement through social media, including testing new tools and approaches for better outreach.

  • Develops and maintains relations with the regional digital team in Nairobi, Kenya.

  • Map and engage influencers in the digital space in collaboration with other communication colleagues and themes in other thematic areas.

  • Collaborate with AV Producer on workflow management to ensure the consistent, content release

  • Ensure accurate, timely, and effective delivery of digital content, optimize for search and audience engagement, partnering with audio/visual producer, social media lead, and Web Editor at the regional digital team in Nairobi, Kenya.

  • Your profile: Education and experience**

  • University degree in mass communication, journalism, digital communications, or political science. A Master’s degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.

  • 3 to 5 years of professional experience as a multi-media journalist, researcher, information analyst, or digital engagement specialist.

  • Excellent writing, editing, and public speaking skills including the ability to communicate about technical matters in simple and concise language.

  • Proven experience in publishing and engaging audiences using social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, etc). Experience in managing social media platforms for a humanitarian organization is a distinct advantage.

  • Proven experience in audio-visual production (photography, video, and radio) is an advantage.

  • Experience in web editing and familiarity with search engine optimization advantage.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of written and spoken Arabic is an advantage.

  • Ability to work effectively under limited supervision in a team environment
