Background
VSF Canada is implementing through VSF Germany and VSF Suisse a two-year project funded by the Government of Canada (DFATD – Development Branch). The project aims to support the livelihoods of 11.000 vulnerable Households (66.000 individuals) specific counties in Northern Bahr El Ghazal and Warrap States, South Sudan.
VSF Germany is undertaking a one year livestock intervention in 5 counties of Lakes State under the Water for Lakes Programme which is implemented by Euroconsult Mott MacDonald through a funding to the Government of South Sudan (GoSS) by the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
While the Water for Lakes Programme aims to stimulate economic development by: unlocking the potential of integrated development and management of land and water resources for production in agriculture, livestock and fisheries and; improving community health conditions, the VSF Germany sub-component is seeking to:
a. facilitate the identification and training / retraining of at least 50 Community Animal Health Workers (CAHWs), each selected by their respective communities in a participatory manner, conscious of gender considerations.
b. promote or establish development of a network of veterinary pharmacies for supply and distribution of veterinary drugs on cost basis.
c. establish (through the CAHW network) at least 30 rural pastoralist field schools (PFSs).
VSF Germany seeks the services of a qualified, experienced female social worker to support the lead trainer in the above activities. This position is based in Rumbek with frequent field travels (Cuiebet, Rumbek Centre, Rumbek East, Rumbek North and Yirol West)

Key responsibilities:

• Organize community dialogues / sensitization on the project and selection of beneficiaries in all the project areas and ensuring women participation in Community Animal Health Workers (CAHWs) trainings, rural Pastoralist Field Schools (PFS) groups and private sector veterinary pharmacy
• support data collection (women related data collection) for the baseline survey
• Help in integrating saving and loaning activities through the Village Community Banking (VICOBA) approaches into the CAHWs and PFS groups

Roles:

• Take lead in community mobilization for sensitization workshops
• Ensure gender participation in all project activities
• Together with the county focal persons as well as County Livestock Departments and the lead trainer help in identification and selection of the CAHWs and members of the PFS for training/ or refresher training
• To act as the PFS and VICOBA focal point for the project

Reports:

• You will report directly to the Project Manager and work together with all the VSF Germany project staffs

Qualifications, Experience, Attributes & Skills required
• At least with a diploma in social work/community development or related field and 1 year experience of working with a local or an international Organization in same capacities, certificate holders with more than two years experience will be considered
• Ability and willingness to travel a lot and work in a remote areas of the project with minimum comfort
• Fluent in English and local languages (Arabic and Dinka)
• Good report writing skills and minimum knowledge of computer packages

Duration

The position will report on February 1st 2016 to December 2016
