Course Overview
Educational psychology is a branch of psychology concerned with the
scientific study of human learning. It is the scientific study of human
learning processes from both cognitive and behavioral perspective which
allows researchers to understand individual differences in intelligence,
cognitive development, affect, motivation, self regulation and self
concept, as well as their role in learning.
It is designed to introduce learners to psychological principles, theories
and methodologies to issues of teaching and learning in schools.
Educational psychology involves the study of memory, conceptual processes
and individual differences (via cognitive psychology) in conceptualizing
new strategies for learning processes in humans.
It has been built on theories of operand, conditioning, functionalism,
structuralism, constructivist, humanistic psychology, Gestalt psychology
and information processing.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the course the learner should be able to:
1.Define educational psychology
2.Demonstrate an understanding of developmental theories and how to apply
them to educational settings.
3.Compare and contrast different teaching approaches with focus on
evaluating their strengths and limitations through psychological lens
- Demonstrate an understanding of the influence of individual and group
differences on various aspects of educational psychology.
- Demonstrate an understanding of both formal and informal assessment
strategies to evaluate and ensure the intellectual, social and physical
development of the learner.
- Apply psychological learning theories to the development of classroom
management techniques.

your time per week • At your own time schedule, no live participation
needed • Weekly feedback from committed instructors • Participants are
expected to submit bi-weekly assignments electronically to earn certificate

Computing Requirements:
Participants will need to use email, upload and download word docs,
PowerPoint files and PDFs, and post on the discussion board or send
assignments by email. If you do not have internet speed sufficient to
download materials, an offline DVD or hard copies course may be the right
alternative for you. Materials Provided: Online delivery of curriculum
materials, exercises and templates.
Exercises
After they have read the material for each unit, students are expected to
test their own Learning by completing some relevant exercises and tasks.
Assignments In order to demonstrate their understanding of the course
content, students will be required to submit FIVE assignments.
