About Us:

Africa Centre for Project Knowledge & Techniques (ACPKT) is a Training Centre, Knowledge Hub and Techniques Resource Portal in Project Management, Monitoring & Evaluation and Proposal Writing and other diverse areas for individuals and organization in development and humanitarian sectors in pursuit for excellence and success in all kinds of projects endeavors. The Training Institute runs training programs in Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, Nigeria, Gambia, Sierra Leone and trains over 6000 development and humanitarian professionals in the last 15 years.

We have trained many development and humanitarian staff from diverse international and local NGOs such as Doctors with Africa CUAMM, European Union National Authorizing Office (NAO) Support Unit (SU), Ministry of Finance, Planning & Economic Development - Uganda, Compassion International, French Embassy Kenya for Humanitarian Projects, Arche Nova International, Biovision Africa Trust, CARE International, Forum Syd, HIVOS, LAGA Cameroon, MEDAIR and Action Aid.

About the Training Course:

Today’s development and humanitarian donor interventions are increasingly complex and implemented under disastrous and risky contexts. While many development and humanitarian staff are passionate to implement development and humanitarian donor interventions successfully, they are limited in the knowledge and skills of Disaster and Risk Management. Implementation of Disaster and Risk Management interventions is carried out by different players at different levels from the community to the national level. While some of the players have substantial knowledge base and experience on Disaster and Risk Management, most of the other players require training from time to time on different aspects of Disaster and Risk Management. The knowledge and skills acquired through this training are critical in the implementation of Disaster and Risk Management interventions. This allows for the training participants to apply the knowledge and skills in Disaster and Risk Management to meet the implementation capacity of Disaster and Risk Management interventions.

Training Course Objectives:

  1. To review the context of Disaster and Risk Management of Development and Humanitarian interventions.

  2. To understand the concepts, terms, cycle and techniques of Disaster and Risk Management.

  3. To understand Contingency Planning, Risk Analysis and Risk Management in Disaster and Risk Management interventions.

  4. To elaborate on Disaster Response and Recovery in Development and Humanitarian interventions.

  5. To explore the integration of Disaster and Risk Management into Sustainable Development.

  6. To highlight the need for Needs Assessments, Early Warning Systems, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting in Disaster and Risk Management interventions.

  7. To explore how to Mainstreaming Crosscutting Issues in Disaster and Risk Management.

Training Methodology:

The training methodology will be a combination of lectures, didactic exercise, videos, role plays, group discussions and question and answer approaches.
