AVSI is operating in South Sudan since 2005, implementing medium to long-term sustainable health, education, water & sanitation, food security and emergency relief programmes.
The organisation is now seeking to recruit one suitable qualified South Sudanese National for the position of Project Coordinator
Duty Station: Isohe, Imotong State
Role description
The Project Coordinator will support AVSI Food Security and Livelihood activities and especially in planning, organization and implementation of different Input Trading Fairs and distribution of Emergency Livelihood Kits in the former Ikwoto County notwithstanding support in Livestock component of different projects.
Specific Duties
Ensures coordination of inception meetings with local leaders and elders, and formation of Seed Fair committees (SFC) following agreed upon criteria.
Supports the Project Officers in ensuring the established SFC are trained on their roles in the different activities involved in the seed fair
Coordinates the mobilization and training of seed sellers as well as evaluation and selection of potential sellers to participate in the seed fair within the area of operation
Plans and ensures selection of beneficiary households within the target areas for both the seed fairs and direct distribution of livelihood kits, in collaboration with the SFC following the approved beneficiary selection criteria
Ensure timely preparation of seed fair schedule capturing but not limited to the expected number of sellers and beneficiary household for discussion, and agreement on the most secure method and locations for making the payments.
Plan for the seed fair implementation by collecting seed samples, carrying out seed viability tests following the agreed upon criteria, planning for temporary seed fair sites, price fixing and signing of MoUs with identified suppliers.
Plans and coordinates the direct distribution of emergency kits while following guidelines on Accountability to Affected Populations for registration of beneficiaries and providing summary distribution reports in a timely manner
- Ensure appropriate support to the field sites where the program is implemented through regular visits.
- Review progress of program objectives and targets in collaboration with the project managers.
- Monitor and evaluate projects and write reports for donors
- Monitor evolving needs of the specific communities being targeted and adjust programmatic priorities as necessary.
- Review technical aspects of internal and external reporting prepared by programmatic staff.
- When required, represent AVSI within the Agriculture and Food Security sector in Imotong State in working groups and Government
- Contribute technical expertise to new Food Security and Livestock project designs
- Provide quality tools and guidelines to country programmes to ensure understanding of high quality programming, operations and advocacy in FSL programmes
Provide support to other AVSI agriculture and FSL projects as may be required.
Requirements
Education
- S/he must have completed a certificate or diploma in agriculture
- Applicants with experience and special training in animal husbandry will be preferred
- Applicants with professional training to a degree level in Agriculture with a bias in Animal Science/Production or Veterinary Medicine will have an added advantage.
Knowledge and experience
- At least 5 years of professional experience.
- Previous experience in organisation of Input Trading Fairs and inputs distributions will be considered a strongly added advantage
- Knowledge of cash or Voucher based programs is an advantage
- Established reputation in the field of agriculture (livestock production).
- Knowledge of Ikwoto County and spoken local languages;
- Be willing to work in a team environment, travel and stay overnight at remote project site
- Experience with an NGO will be an added advantage.
- Certified participation to master training or ToT is a big advantage;
- Experience with community involvement in implementation of programs
- Computer literacy; with fluency in written and spoken English, and Juba Arabic
