AVSI is operating in South Sudan since 2005, implementing medium to long-term sustainable health, education, water & sanitation, food security and emergency relief programmes.

The organisation is now seeking to recruit Three suitable qualified South Sudanese Nationals for the position of Food Security and Livelihoods Project Officers

Duty Station: Isohe, Imotong State

Role description

The Food Security and Livelihood Project Officers will support the Project Coordinator in the implementation of Food Security and Livelihood activities and, specifically, in the organization and implementation of different Input Trading Fairs in the former Ikwoto County

Specific Duties

Coordinate inception meetings with local leaders and elders, and formation of Seed Fair committees (SFC) following agreed upon criteria.

Present the beneficiary selection criteria to the communities during community sensitization meetings for review and improvement

Ensures that the established SFC are trained on their roles in the different activities involved in the seed fair

Ensures mobilization and training of seed sellers as well as evaluation and selection of potential sellers to participate in the seed fair within the area of operation

Ensures selection of beneficiary households within the target areas for both the seed fairs and the direct distribution of livelihood kits, in collaboration with the SFC following the approved beneficiary selection criteria

Ensures registration and verification of beneficiaries using the specially designed beneficiary registration form. Assists in timely training of beneficiaries and enumerators to discuss the seed fair implementation process and respond to any concerns.

Preparation of seed fair schedule capturing but not limited to the expected number of sellers and beneficiary household for discussion, and agreement on the most secure method and locations for making the payments.

Plan for the seed fair implementation by collecting seed samples, carrying out seed viability tests following the agreed upon criteria, planning for temporary seed fair sites, price fixing and signing of MoUs with identified suppliers.

Preparation of seed vouchers, organizing the fair site and materials for the fair as well as implementation of the seed fair following the established criteria while ensuring that all the required forms are duly filled and signed by the different stakeholders.

Assists in the direct distribution of emergency kits while following guidelines on Accountability to Affected Populations and providing summary distribution reports in a timely manner

Perform any other project activity that may be assigned to you by your supervisors from time to time.

Requirements

Education

  • S/he must have completed secondary schools with experience in agriculture
  • Applicants with certificate or diploma in agriculture (crop husbandry) or related field of study will be preferred
  • Agriculture and social training to degree level is an advantage

Knowledge and experience

  • At least 4 years of professional experience
  • Previous experience in organisation of Input Trading Fairs will be considered a strongly added advantage
  • Knowledge of cash or Voucher based programs is an advantage
  • Established reputation in the field of agriculture (agronomy) and FSL projects.
  • Knowledge of Ikwoto County and spoken local languages;
  • Be willing to work in a team environment, travel and stay overnight at remote project site
  • Experience with an NGO will be an added advantage.
  • Certified participation to master training or ToT is a big advantage;
  • Experience with community involvement in implementation of programs
  • Computer literacy;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, Juba Arabic
