AVSI Foundation is a global non-governmental organization with headquarters in Italy. AVSI is operating in South Sudan since 2005, implementing medium to long-term sustainable health, education, water & sanitation, food security and emergency relief programmes.
The organisation is now seeking to recruit suitable qualified South Sudanese national for the positions of Area Program Officer
Duty Station: Ikotos/ Magwi Counties.
.Role
The education area program officer (EAPO) will be responsible to support the project manager in the implementation of AVSI’s PEACE education project, funded by UNICEF in Ikotos, Magwi and Torit counties, Easter Equatoria State. The area program officer shall assist the project manager and coordinate the social worker’s activities in the project area to ensure successful implementation of activities and plans. The area program officer should represent AVSI in the targeted area, through coordination with local authorities, education stakeholders, NGOs and other project related actors.
Specific Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Support the project manager in supervising the construction works of safe and healthy learning environments.
• Planning and organizing items distributions in targeted schools.
• Supervise and plan the social worker’s activities (i.e. counselling, follow up visits).
• Collect and analyse the social worker activities report and address to the project manager.
• Organize activities to promote community involvement in education.
• Submit to the project manager regular report and data collection concerning activities carried out.
• Contribute to the development of monitoring and evaluation assessment tools used to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the needs of vulnerable children in intervention area.
• Liaise with the project manager for the management of the individual case assistance.
• Organize and implement awareness campaign in the targeted communities (i.e.: lifesaving, hygiene promotion, health, peace building and nonviolent conflict resolution mechanisms).
• Liaise with Headmasters and teachers of the targeted schools and all the other local partners that emerge during activities.
• Maintain and develop relationship with education stakeholders and partners in the project area.
• Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Job Requirements
• Relevant higher education qualification (Diploma in Education or education related course.)
• Four (4) to 5 years work experience with NGO or in the Education public sector
• Experience in program management in education sectors
• Extensive experience in implementing programs related to community development
• Experience in managing the collection and analysis of data
• Strong communication and inter-personal skills
• Demonstrable strong leadership skills, ability to work in a complex team work environment, set appropriate priorities and deal effectively with numerous simultaneous requirements.
• Good English language skills
• Should be able to travel to the program sites
