World Vision is looking for a dynamic person to fill the position of Assistant WASH Project Officer (Man or Woman) in its UNICEF- PCA Project, based in Malakal.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Assistant WASH Officer will assist the Project Manager / WASH Officer in the implementation of WASH activities in the UNICEF funded Life-saving emergency WASH response for IDP communities in Upper Nile. This will be achieved by working with the WASH Officer in assessments, installation, construction, rehabilitation of WASH facilities, monitoring and Evaluation and capacity building of staff and community structures. This project targets IDPS and Vulnerable hosts in Malakal County, and any other approved areas of Upper Nile States.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Help plan activities with the community to reduce WASH-related risks.
- Support the WASH Officer in the supervision of construction and rehabilitation works at field level.
- Collect and record data on routine activities and share it with the WASH Officer
- Act as a link between community and contractors to ensure that quality infrastructure construction is implemented
- Supervise contractors and other casual workers and staff as may be delegated by the WASH Officer.
- Support the WASH Officer in Tracking and documenting all work processes including community feedback, positions of infrastructure (GPS), labelling of WASH facilities and project photos.
- Work with the WASH Officer and Quality Assurance unit to develop quality checklists and forms
- Ensure DIPs, short term plans, procurement plans and Cash Forecasts are in place in a timely manner
- Mobilise the community to participate in the implementation of project activities
- Ensure that the facilities are constructed in line with the relevant procedures and standards
- Monitor progress of activities report all milestones and flag issues as soon as they arise.
- Ensure an integrated approach in the implementation of WASH infrastructure and Hygiene promotion components.
- Ensure timely completion of project activities according to the detailed implementation.
- Participate in drafting of weekly and monthly reports before deadlines.
• KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- A college diploma in Civil Engineering, Public Health, Environmental Health and Science or any other related field from a reputable tertiary institution. A bachelor’s degree will be an added advantage.
- A minimum 2 years post qualification experience leading hygiene and/or public health promotion campaigns preferably with an INGO setup.
- Good computer skills, particularly in MS Word, MS Excel.
- Commitment to World Vision Core values and mission statement.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Oral and written Arabic and knowledge of local language will be added advantages.
- Experience working in emergencies, under difficult circumstances in remote locations with minimum supervision.
N.B: This position is open to South Sudanese Nationals Only.
N.B: The incumbent of this position will not be a relocatable Staff.
