DanChurchAid (DCA) is looking for Medic 02. The position is a one-year position with the possibility of extension for 1 year based on performance and donor funding. Duty station will be Juba with frequent travels to field locations.
The South Sudan HMA programme started up in 2012 with two EOD teams and a RE team capable of deploying throughout South Sudan. Each team currently deploys with one trained and accredited medic but the programme is seeking to increase its medical capacity to at least two medics per team, and further wishes to train additional medics that can be called if the programme’s capacity increases as anticipated. The programme is therefore requesting the temporary deployment of a Medic to train and accredit new medics for the South Sudan programme.
The Medic is responsible for responding to accidents and emergencies quickly, efficiently, and in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
The main responsibilities of the Medic Include but not limited to the below:
• Understand and strictly adheres to National Technical Standard & Guidelines (NTSG) and Medical Standard Operating Procedures (DCA SOPs).
• Has a general understanding of all Standard Operating Procedures.
• Provides immediate medical cover to all team personnel in their area of operation at all times while on duty.
• Stabilizes the casualty in the event of an accident.
• Under the direction of the Team Leader, are positioned at the relevant minimum safety distance from operational activities.
• Reports the health conditions of all team members to the medical coordinator on a weekly basis.
• Assists and advises on the hygiene of the general team members and the camp site.
• The trauma pack, first aid kit, vehicle kit and stretcher are complete, serviceable and adequate for the task as per SOPs. This includes the designated ambulance.
• All items removed or used are to be replaced within 24 hours. If you are unable to replace the items within this time the TA should be informed as soon as possible and necessary action taken to replace the kits.
• All medical kits contain a itemized list of contents showing expiry dates, and the lists are to be updated whenever items are used, or replaced.
• All medical kits are packed in a uniform and organised manner to allow for easy access and quick removal when required in an emergency.
• Reports to the TA any expiring drugs 2 months before their actual expiry date is reached.
• Conducts CASEVAC exercise before and during each task and at least once every month as directed.
• Conducts CASEVAC training and refresher course to Deminers/EOD Operators and drivers.
• Drafts CASEVAC plans and reports to the TA.
- Writes medical reports and accident reports as outlined in SOPs.
- Administers treatment for small day to day injuries sustained by team members during the course of work.
- Carries out trauma care and first aid medical instruction to other DCA staff when required
- Wears the issued uniform while on duty for DCA
- Carries out any other duties, as directed by Team Leader or TA, to meet operational requirements.
We are looking for a colleague with the following qualifications:
• At least 2 years as a Senior Medic;
• A certificate as a nurse
• Strong oral communication skills;
• A team player with an open, compassionate, humorous disposition;
• Flexible, patient and persistent personality;
