World Vision is looking for a dynamic person to fill the position of Protection Officer (Man or Woman) for its Office in Melut – Upper Nile

Purpose of the position:

World Vision South Sudan is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and experienced individual to integrate/mainstream protection/GBV into WASH intervention for conflict affected IDPS in Melut County in Upper Nile Sate, South Sudan. The overall purpose of post is to provide technical support, mainstreaming of protection concerns, organize protection capacity building training for hygiene promotors, community leaders, women group and water committee members. The position is based in Melut, Upper Nile State.

Major Responsibilities

• Provided technical assistance to SSJR3 project in Melut and to any partners on gender and protection in our programming (including World Vision approaches, minimum requirements/standards, best practices, and international standards) through a consultative and results based approach. Participate in designing and implementation/integration of protection/GBV activities in WASH intervention in accordance with the project documents and donor requirements.
• Adapt and conduct trainings for staff and partners on gender and protection related topics, safe programming, mainstreaming, and integration.
• Additionally capacity built through mentoring on gender sensitive programming, safe programming, and mainstreaming of both.
• Ensured that gender checklists are used and worked with various departments on revising and revisiting the gender sensitive indicators for improved mainstreaming.
• Contribute to/conduct Gender Analysis, Protection Analysis (context/power/risk/conflict/etc.) through both primary and secondary data collection.
• Support project teams to ensure WASH processes are engendered and include protection to ensure learning is captured.
• Follow up and monitor WV water point and latrine constructed by World Vision is safe for children, women , elderly people and people with disability
• Establish referral and coordination mechanisms with government institutions and other organizations and address GBV and Protection concerns
• In collaboration with GBV Officer , manage , handle and refer cases related to child protection concerns
• Compile, document and share project related reports, data best-practices to project manager
• Attending protection and GBV working group meetings and share with Project Manager
• Preparing written protection updates for SSJR situation reports
• Prepare and submit weekly, monthly and quarterly report to Project manager
• Provide full support to Project Manager in carrying out the baseline study, community consultation semi / annual reviews, and evaluations during the lifespan of the program.
• Provide written feedback about protection incidents, issues and aid-related community-conflicts related to WASH etc

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:
• A minimum of a degree with 3 years or diploma with 5 years’ of work experience in psychology and other social sciences
• Practical work experience on protection and GBV is an asset
• Proven experience in working with community structures and government institutions( justice and social welfare )
• Analytical, problem-solving skills and comfortable working under minimal supervision;
• Proficiency of English language and Arabic communication skills
• Highly developed inter-personal skills/inter-cultural sensitivity;
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and email/internet programs;
• Knowledge of and adherence to the Red Cross and NGO Code of Conduct and capability of incorporating standards in design, implementation and evaluation of relevant projects.
• An understanding of human rights principles, especially those related to women and children
