ACF-USA is current looking for suitable candidates to fill the position of Stabilization Center (SC) Medical Officer, (1 position)
Starting date: As soon as possible (asap).
Duty Station: Alek, Gogrial West State, South Sudan.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Objective 1: Patients’ management;
• Examine and screen the children for SC admission
• Ensure correct admission criteria to the SC are followed
• Relate well to the SC Caretakers, in terms of welcoming them, informing them of what they should expect and what is expected from them while they stay at the centre.
• Ensure standard therapeutic treatment protocol and the systematic treatment.
• Ensure correct dosage of medications according to the medical prescriptions and protocols;
• Arrange consultations of the admitted children and with caregivers.
Objective 2: Ensure follow up of the patients during treatment;
• Responsible for the day to day SC program activities
• Identify patients that presents severe medical condition and provided appropriate care;
• Ensure that anthropometric follow up of the patients are carried out on daily basis;
• Ensure that the patient are referred for vaccination;
• Ensure the daily medical follow up of the patients (vital signs)
• Explain to the caretaker her/his role as a partner in caring for the child;
• Check and encourage the stimulation and psychological support provided by mothers or those accompanying the patients;
• Encourage mothers to breastfed their children frequently and after each care ministered;
• Decide on changes of phases and discharges
• Ensure proper referral process for cases that needs further health treatment.
Objective 3: Supervise hygiene;
• Check that the patients who do not present a risk of hypothermia are washed and properly dried every day;
• Provide education to caretakers on importance of hygiene, the use of water and latrines.
• Check that the patients and the accompanying person wash their hands before each meal and after going to the toilet;
• Check that the mats and bed sheets are clean, washed and changed regularly and that blankets are available;
• Check that the children’s clothes are washed and changed regularly;
• Check that the patient’s space is washed by the accompanying person;
• Check that the water containers and utensils are clean.
Objective 4: Supervision and assistance;
• Provide trainings/follow up trainings to nurses and nurse aids on simple medical procedures.
• Coordinate with the Medical Officer to arrange for transportation of the beneficiaries back home/ transfer to hospital.
• Inform the Medical Officers and nurses in cases of absence, fainting/fits, death, transfer to the hospital, transfer home;
• Keep tracking of accomplished activities, prepare briefing note and explain to visitors the functioning of the centre
• Support the caretakers with information/ health Education on infant and young child feeding using the UNICEF counselling cards and take-home messages
• Give the mothers individual advice on health education and insist on the problems and good things observed (individual hygiene, water management, etc.).
• Work in close collaboration with the rest of the TFC team.
• Complete staff attendance sheet and ensure the SC staff follow the proper code of conduct
Objective 5: Reporting Responsibilities;
• Keep tracking of all accomplished activities in the SC and support the Nutrition Program Manager in monthly report write-up
• Prepare the monthly consumption report for Food and Noon Food Items
• Prepare the monthly pharmacy report together with the help of the Medical Officer
• Contribute to the monthly programme Sitrep.
• Monthly narrative reports on SC admissions and discharge
• Weekly quantitative reports
• Inputs for weekly sitrep
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED
• Three years course in enrolled comprehensive nursing.
• Health related certificate.
• Good medical knowledge to diagnose and to do medical procedures
• Sufficient knowledge of arithmetic to make anthropometric measurements and statistics.
• Knowledge of the local context & can easily communicated with the local language
• Good communication skills and ability to influence the community.
• Experience with ACF-USA nutrition activities.
• Clear understanding of medical disease and complications and their treatment
• Clear understanding of Team Work.
• Flexible personality and negotiation skills.
• Willing to work under high case-load of beneficiaries.

JOB SUMMARY
To provide effective responsibility of giving medication milk according to medical protocol, update registration book, admission records, discharge and follow up as well timely reporting (weekly & monthly), and inform the line manager of any challenges.
